Washington, DC
A mezzanine is introduced into this tall retail space to gain additional square footage and to house the Optical Lab. Underneath is the Exam Room intended to be open to view, but which can be closed with a large maple sliding door during examinations. Use of mirrors at inside corners creates the illusion of longer walls. Eyeglass display cabinets are consistently designed with glass outside corners and solid internal structure to create a greater sense of openness and to maximize the exposure of merchandise. Extensive use of maple, aluminum, sisal carpeting, bold accent colors and incandescent lighting add texture, warmth and drama to the clean modern image that Voorthuis Opticians has always cultivated.
