Washington, DC
Hundreds of satin stainless steel loops link together within the core of a sphere, celebrating the connections made by ordinary American citizens in service to other men and women worldwide in the cause of peace. Tips of the loops define the surface of the 15 ft. diameter sphere. The loops, constructed of flat bar in different orientations, will reflect the sky in myriad ways. At night, the tips of the loops will be illuminated.
The sphere is raised 30 ft. above the ground atop a truncated 18 ft. tall pedestal made of concrete -- a material which is ubiquitous around the world. The sphere is on axis with a pathway leading from the Taft Memorial and the U.S. Capital Building beyond. It anchors a small triangular plaza paved in common slate.
